  • Pick a topic that's interesting to you.
  • Make sure your sources are scholarly.
  • Don't pick an obscure topic, it will be hard to research.
  • Make sure to take really good notes on your citations.
  • Don't use Knightcite.
  • Make sure you know the difference between works cited and works consulted.
  • Keep track of your works consulted.
  • Stick to your thesis, don't go off on a tangent.
  • Don't be afraid of college libraries.
  • Disregard conflicting information written by someone else.

  • Use databases such as World Book Online, MEL and Proquest Learning Literature (located on the East Grand Rapids Highschool Media Center Page)
  • Make a good rough draft because it will make it for an easier final copy, likely a better grade overall
  • MAKE SURE TO ALWAYS SPELL HAZLE CORRECTLY!!!!!!!!
  • Start your research and rough draft early so that you will have time to make corrections to your paper

  • When doing research, make sure to know where all of your research comes from, keep track of all websites and books so you can write a proper works cited.

Research Paper Tips

  • Use a database at a college (such as Aquinas or Calvin College) to search for scholarly sources, critical essays, and analysis on your topic.
  • DON'T PROCRASTINATE 0_o
  • Indent quotes over four lines 10 spaces (ie: 2 TAB keys)
  • Spell "Hazel" rightly!
  • Make a paste-up of your work, to organize your support and to make sure you have enough sources.

    2. Do not limit yourself to internet database searches! Books and libraries will have valuable information.
    3. Make sure you have enough scholarly sources.
    4. Choose authors that you like. You will be doing this project for a while.
    5. Take advantages of nearby colleges. There are many more sources there.
    6. Choose a mainsteam author, it will cut out a lot of extra time.
